Documentary storytelling at Doxumentale’26 — Berlin, 28 May – 7 June
For anyone interested in narrative, testimony and the art of non-fiction storytelling — two book readings in English this year, plus a strong film programme with Q&As.
A History of the World in Six Plagues (2 June, 19:00 – Atrium Tower, Lounge 19) A sharp journey through the history of epidemics — from colonial power structures to prisons to lockdowns. How societies treat their most vulnerable in times of crisis, and what a more just way of living together might look like. Discussion with the author included.
Braver New World (31 May, 18:30 – Atrium Tower, Lounge 19) John Kampfner travels the globe to find societies that are boldly and collectively finding solutions — care in Japan, housing in Vienna, healthcare in Taiwan. A book about what’s possible when there’s political will. Open discussion after the reading.
And for the film side:
Toni, My Father (6 & 7 June) — A daughter tells her childhood in the shadow of her father’s ideology. A film about growing up inside someone else’s story.
80 Angry Journalists (2 & 4 June) — A newsroom collapses under political pressure. From the wreckage, something new is written.
All films in original language with English subtitles.
